Why an Always-On Culture is Not Sustainable or Beneficial

Posted: 09/14/2018 - 22:00
I was recently watching a fly-on-the-wall programme about a car business. The show focused on people’s different roles and how they were trying to balance competing priorities while keeping to tight deadlines and within budget. Cut to a shot in Spain where the director of the business is on holiday. For the next five minutes we see how the director calls for an update every day. The interviewer then speaks to all of the staff who gleefully tell the camera when he has called them.

Brexit migration controls will lead to more offshoring

One of the key arguments that really defined the Brexit referendum in the UK was migration. British voters supported an exit from the European Union largely because they wanted more control over their borders. Those arguing for Brexit say that they are not trying to end migration entirely, just they want to ensure that the people who enter the UK have the right skills. Nobody should be able to enter just because they were also born in Europe.

While there is a lot of focus and discussion on how to outsource the right way and bring business value, a very common mistake many companies make is around ignoring how outsourced services are orchestrated with the functions of the retained organisation(s) to provide business with a seamless “IT experience”.

Ready, aim... Don't shoot the messenger!

Every once in a while I come across a situation marked with incongruous and unexpected elements that, when summed up, can only be labelled as completely bizarre. One such situation started in the boardroom of Walker Ideas, a very successful inside-outsourcing service provider to the food industry. Walker operates at dozens of facilities dedicated to performing services that their customers strategically exited. As such, Walker is a key partner to their customers, or so they allow themselves to believe.

TOP TEN: (Even More) Outsourcing Insults

Posted: 03/01/2016 - 21:35

A couple of years ago, as part of our ongoing Top Ten series we published a collection of some of the finest, most cutting terms of abuse ever heard in a professional environment (soon to be followed by a second): along with transforming the global business landscape, members of the outsourcing community certainly appear to possess world-class talents in the fields of invective, calumny and scorn…

Saving money through outsourcing HR and payroll

Posted: 02/10/2016 - 10:03

HR is one of the most commonly outsourced functions, as it involves both complex and time-consuming tasks. Outsourcing HR services can have a positive impact on an organisation, effectively saving money whilst simultaneously increasing the quality and efficiency of the company’s HR and payroll. Outsourcing results in more final output but requires lower input costs than in-house HR.
